Marietta DECA wins GPI Project
Congratulations to (R to L) Maggie Smith, Karena Grigenas, and Abigail Jacobs. They were selected by the Georgia Department of Education as 1 of 6 entries to compete in the Graphic Packaging International competition. To compete, they had to write a thirty page marketing plan and present it to eight executives in the boardroom of GPI. The judges raved about their performance. A few quotes from the Vice President, CFO, and Director are as follows:
“This is better than my own marketing department. I have absolutely no critique to give you.”
“You knocked it out of the park and covered everything as a professional would.”
“Your grasp of software analytics is outstanding. Great job!”
“Your ad design and television commercial was flawless. It even made me tear up a bit.”
Mr. Lewis, their Marketing teacher, could not be any prouder. He said “I’d like to give special thanks to Linda Smith from the GaDOE for giving our school the opportunity to experience this event. This real-world scenario is something that you just can’t replicate by staying inside the classroom. These girls worked like crazy to get the win and I couldn’t be more proud of them. From making websites, commercials, and social media campaigns, they thought of everything. A flawless presentation, complete with stunning props and energetic presenters.”
Junior Karena Grigenas said “ This was truly a team effort. We knew we had the win when the adults we showed it to a few days prior, were amazed at what we had created.”
Sophomore Abigail Jacobs added “ We were so nervous but I guess it didn’t show. Once we began, it was like well-rehearsed choreography.”
Sophomore Maggie Smith closed with “Thanks so much to Mr. Lewis for pushing us to succeed. Now that we’ve heard the feedback, it is sinking in just how big of a deal this was.”
